The Health and Wellbeing of our people is at the forefront of everything we do here at HCMUK.
We take pride in knowing that we do everything we can to help our employees with their health & wellbeing. We do this by providing benefits focused on health & wellbeing, carrying out activities, workouts and by taking part in the Health At Work Award.
HCMUK joined the BHAW programme in April 2022, achieving bronze level in December 2022 and a Special Recognition Award for our work supporting our employees. We achieved silver level in December 2023, so our progress through the levels of the programme is impressive. We are now going for Gold.
“I am passionate about helping people improve their own health and wellbeing and love my role here at Hitachi. The aim of my role is to provide employees with information and tools to make better, more informed lifestyle choices to help them thrive mentally and physically. I am extremely proud to work for HCMUK as the health and wellbeing of employees is not a tick box exercise”.
Examples of activities we have carried out include:
We carry out an annual programme of health screenings for all staff. Our occupational health provider carries out a full health test with extra tests available including cholesterol, diabetes and prostate cancer markers for men.
HCMK has in place a health and wellbeing contribution scheme to encourage and support our employees to be active. There are several schemes to choose from including money towards gym equipment, gym membership fees or payment towards a bicycle.
All employes have access to the Medicash health cash plan app and can claim money back on a variety of health and wellbeing costs such as dental, optical, prescriptions and complementary therapies.
As a corporate supporter to the Lighthouse Construction Industry our employees have full access to the health and wellbeing resources available from the Lighthouse, including a helpline, support app and training. Unum’s Help@Hand EAP is also available to employees with support provided on a variety of topics including mental and physical health, financial and legal advice, and virtual GP appointments.
Employees who are struggling can be referred to a counsellor who we work closely with. The counsellor provides face-to-face or virtual sessions and supports on topics including grief, bereavement, anxiety, and depression.
We have in place a mental health support team who have been trained to have a supportive conversation with a colleague who is struggling and to signpost them to further help. Our team is supported by the Health and Wellbeing Advisor who ensures they are fully trained and up to date on new support services available, are given help with difficult interventions and ensures they stand down or have a break from the role if it is affecting their own mental health.
We provide a monthly drop in clinic for employees to attend, where they can discuss in confidence any physical and mental health concerns they have. Appointments are face to face or over Teams/phone for those based at a depot.
